Critical Reflection

Critical Reflection  How do your products represent social groups or issues? Alcoholism is a major issue in America, along with physical and mental abuse.  Our short film incorporates both of these issues.  Many families in America are ruined due to alcoholism.  In 2019, a national survey on drug use and health revealed that around 16 million Americans were heavy drinkers and 14.5 million Americans had an alcohol use disorder.  Of these many alcoholics, some tend to get angry and violent when they are drunk which can lead to physical and mental abuse towards loved ones.  Provided from the NCADV, almost 20 people per minute are physically abused by their partner.  Many families suffer through this and stay quiet about it. Alcoholism and abuse is widely known but never fully put into depth.  Most movies and films show women being abused by alcoholic men, but this is where our short film differs. Our film shows the man getting abused by the alcoholic woman.  This is a topic that isn’t

Short Film Package: Till Death Do Us Part

Short Film Package: Till Death Do Us Part This is Oscar and I's final product of our short film.  I had such an amazing time filming and editing this film.  Oscar and I both put a lot of hard work and effort into this project.  This short film has felt like a little journey and it has now come to an end.  We have been working on the project for a couple of months now.  We have now made it to the end and it feels like such an accomplishment. Final Touches!

Final Touches! We are finally at the end of our project!!  Oscar and I have been working on this project for a couple of months now.  It feels like such an accomplishment to almost be done.  I am going to go through the short film one more time and make sure everything is good.  I am then going to go through my social media platforms along with the postcard and website.  I will make any changes I think is necessary.  Lastly, I will finish up my critical reflection and make sure I answered every question completely.  Today I spent the day with my two friends, Alexa and Paola.  They are also in AICE Media Studies.  I thought it would be a good idea to get pointers from other people in the besides my partner.  They gave me feedback, and I gave them feedback.  It was really nice to get a perspective from someone else.  They were both very honest with me which I needed.  The music that I had over my montage was switched.  Alexa was brutally honest with me and told me that it sounded dumb wi

Last day getting together

Image
Last day getting together Today Oscar and I got together for the last time.  We did multiple things today.  First, we filmed the the two sounds that we are going to include in our film.  The first one being the thud and the second one of Oscar saying, "What have I done?"  Second, we went over the postcard and the website.  We changed some pictures on both the post card and website.  Third, we over the short film together and made any changes necessary.  After editing the whole film, we ended at 4:59 minutes.  Then, we added some elements to our social media accounts.  We decided it would be cool to post our postcard on all of the different social media accounts.  We also made the front cover of the postcard our profile picture.  Lastly, we found music for our short film.  We added music to our short montage, along with some other clips.  Once we recorded the two sounds, I added it to the short film.  Then I went over the shirt film with Oscar and made a few changes.  We chang

Critical Reflection writing process

Critical Reflection writing process Today I am in Orlando visiting my cousin.  I arrived on Friday, and I am staying until Sunday.  On the car ride over to Orlando, I started working on my critical reflection essay.  The car ride is about 3 hours.  I already started it about a week ago but I didn't completely finish.  I wrote a couple of sentences down for each question and then listed bullet points under each question with ideas on what to write.  Now that we are technically done with our short film project, I wanted to now focus on the critical reflection.  Since I went through most of the filming and editing process, I think it will be easier to start writing my reflection on our project.  The first question on the critical reflection is about how my short relates to social groups or issues.  Our short film revolves around the issue of alcoholism and abuse within relationships.  In my response, I found statistics about alcoholism and abuse towards men in a relationships.  The se

Editing Process (getting close to the end!)

Editing Process (getting close to the end!) After yesterday's filming, I added the rest of the footage onto iMovie.  Once I added all the footage, I started from the beginning and went through the play script and storyboard to make sure we got everything.  As I was going through it, I realized we never got the beach scene and we never filmed the scene of me on the floor after getting pushed.  Oscar and I completely forgot to film those two scenes.  Oscar had work yesterday at 5 so the filming was a little rushed since we didn't start filming until like 3:30.  I'm upset that we forgot to shoot these scenes but I don't think we would have enough time to include these two scenes anyway.  Along with forget to film those two scenes, we forgot to film the voiceover of Oscar saying, "What have I done?"  We also didn't record the sound of me hitting the kitchen counter.  Recording these two sounds won't take long though.  To record the sound of me hitting my h

Third Day of Filming

Image
Third Day of Filming Today Oscar and I filmed the last scene of our film, along with some retakes of previous clips.  After school, Oscar came over to my house and we finished the rest of our filming.  We filmed the ending scene and then refilmed the first scene.  Filming the last scene was a little tricky.  In this scene I pull out a knife on Oscar causing him to push me into the table counter.  First, it was hard to stay serious in this scene.  I kept smiling and laughing when I would walk up to Oscar.  After like the 3rd take, I was finally able to stay somewhat serious.  Second, both Oscar and I were a little nervous with the knife.  I didn't want to get too close to Oscar since he was going to have to push me.  I didn't want to fall and accidentally scratch him with the knife.  When Oscar pushed me, we made sure to film next to the corner of the counter to make it seem as if I was going to hit the counter.  I obviously didn't stand too close to the counter just in case
